The Chocolate Adventure Contest

Go ahead: show us your adventurous chocolate spirit. Spend a bit of time in your kitchen. Create an inventive recipe for any course—appetizer, entrée, dessert, even a drink—using Scharffen Berger chocolate and at least one adventure ingredient.

Perhaps you’ll decide to reinvent a classic or explore ingredients from a far-away region. Perhaps you’ll choose to focus on your own region’s culinary traditions or delight us with a completely new way to use chocolate. The choice is yours. You can submit up to 10 recipes.

If your chocolate creation wins, you could make chocolate lovers everywhere swoon. And then too, there’s the tasty little matter of a $10,000 grand prize for each category.

THE BASICS

We invite recipes in two categories: Sweet and Savory. You can create recipes for one or both categories.

Each recipe must include Scharffen Berger chocolate—with anywhere from 41% to 99% cacao—and at least one of our enticing adventure ingredients (see sidebar). This year, we chose adventure ingredients that are largely from countries along the cacao-belt, the regions where cacao is grown.

From cold to cooked, from roasted to toasted, from blended to sautéed—we encourage you to explore the route that stirs you and your creativity. We’ll judge your creation based on creativity, taste, ease of preparation and whether the recipe reflects a spirit of adventure. Remember to review the Official Contest Rules for details.

PRIZES

TWO GRAND PRIZES

We’ll award $10,000 for the winning recipe in both the Sweet and Savory categories as well as a delectable, custom selection of Scharffen Berger® chocolates. The recipes will be featured on chocolateadventurecontest.com, ScharffenBerger.com and TuttiFoodie.com

TWO SECOND PLACE PRIZES

We’ll award a second-place prize in both the Sweet and Savory categories. Winners receive a signed copy of Demolition Desserts by Elizabeth Falkner, Pure Dessert by Alice Medrich, and The Essence of Chocolate, by John Scharffenberger and Robert Steinberg as well as a delectable, custom selection of Scharffen Berger® chocolates. The recipes will be featured on chocolateadventurecontest.com, ScharffenBerger.com and TuttiFoodie.com.
